Are salons going to discriminate people based on obesity above all and charge more from those who are obese? Are discrimination based on caste, color, creed, nationality etc not sufficient enough to hurt humanity that now discrimination based on the weight of a person has to be incorporated?
Finding it hard to believe that a salon has actually intended to charge more from the obese? Read on!
A Tennessee woman named Deshania Ferguson was so surprised to see a sign at a salon named Rose Nails in Frayser, that she took a snap of it and posted it on her Facebook account for her friends as well as the world at large to see what’s happening around. It leads to a huge discussion. Here’s what the sign was all about.
It read, “Sorry but if you are overweight, pedicures will be $45 due to service fees for pedicurists.”
I’m sure you read the sign twice to believe it, for how can something this stupid even make sense. No points guessing why it generated such a heated chain of discussions on social media.
Her post was shared by over 500 people on the network and so it also caught the eye of the local news station WREG. They went on to the salon to find out what was happening but by then, the salon owner had already removed the signboard.
He even denied that the picture was taken in her salon but facts proved otherwise.
The reporter Shay Arthur had asked, “So this isn’t your business? Even though the floors and chairs match? The sign was never in your business?”
“No there are same walls and floors everywhere, it could be anywhere,” Nguyen, the salon owner was quoted as saying. Nguyen, however, did confirm that his bottom line was hit when his chairs were broken when overweight customers visited him for a pedicure.
He admits that customers have gotten upset with him over his policy, coming as a shock to no one, especially those on Facebook.
He now plans to not put up any such sign but is determined to not serve someone if he/she is severely overweight.
