After covering 4 miles into a 10-mile marathon training in Seattle last week, 36 years old Kelly Herron, made her first stop at Golden Gardens Park to relax at the public restroom. Then what happened was worst a woman can think of, a strange man turned up in the bathroom, and tried to rape her. As Herron was drying her hands, she turned around after getting the feeling of something wasn’t right.
“So I just started beating the side of his head with the side of my hand”, she added that. “He immediately took me down to the ground, hit both my knees and legs, and then it was a fight on the bathroom floor, and I just kept screaming, ‘Not today, motherfucker! .'” She fought bravely and locked him.
Luckily, Herron had taken a self-defense class only three weeks earlier.
Reminding her like “hard bones go in soft fleshy places” came to mind as she struggled and screamed her repeating “not today m***** f****”. She refused to call herself a victim as she fought brave and saved herself from getting molested by an insane pervert.
“My face is stitched, my body is bruised, but my spirit is intact,” she said to ABC news. Though she suffered few facial injuries of which she shared a picture on Instagram but she locked him until police arrived.
Her attacker Gary Steiner was already registered for several sexual assaults in 1999, indecent exposure in 2008 and another conviction of criminal mischief with a deadly weapon in 2015 in Arizona, and was charged with attempted second-degree rape and second-degree assault with sexual motivation.
This is where we realise how important is self-defense for a woman, we never know who is coming with what intention. Herron is an inspiration for woman around the world.
